This Nvidia RTX3090 is designed to break records and your bank account

If you're looking for a place to buy an Nvidia RTX 3090, you might be interested in Galax's new model. But be warned that while the GeForce RTX 3090 HOF is built for maximum speed, its striking design and huge price tag make it a luxury item even by RTX 3090 standards.

Australian retailer MWave stocks the base model for A$3,899, or about $3,016 in US dollars. Next, there is the GeForce RTX 3090 HOF Premium, which has the same clock speed but adds its own small LCD display for A$3,999/$3095 USD. Finally, there is the GeForce RTX 3090 HOF Limited Edition, which increases the boost clock speed from 1,815 MHz to 1,875 MHz. It is priced at ?4,499 AUD, or about $3,482 USD.

Given that Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition is "only" $1,499, this is pricing that even the most profiteering reseller would probably consider a bit too high. But even more than the cheaper RTX 3090 variant, the GeForce RTX 3090 HOF series is not just for running games smoothly. It is built to break speed records.

This is evident in both the name, HOF meaning Hall of Fame, and the monstrous boost clock speeds: the Founders' Edition is set to a maximum of 1,695 MHz, while Galax is a Limited Edition model Galax boosted this peak by nearly 200 MHz.

Combine the need for a tripled 8-pin power connector with the official recommendation of a 1,000-watt PSU, and you have a trio of cards that are more for hard-core overclocking than anything else. The competition for overclocking is quite... Because of the competitive potential, there are absolutely people willing to pay top dollar for a graphics card that can better handle the added power.

The 4.3-inch LCD display that comes with the Premium and Limited editions is also intended to display system monitoring information such as system load and temperature, but it too is primarily used by overclockers.

However, not everything is purely practical. Aesthetically, the GeForce RTX 3090 HOF series is one of the most retina-doubtingly extravagant on the market, with its all-white paint job, thick metal back plate, and on-board RGB lighting. The LCD panel can also be magnetically attached to the side of the card, adding a sort of ice crown. [But in any case, this would not be an ideal purchase for the average PC builder. Instead, we recommend focusing on our guides on where to buy the Nvidia RTX 3080 and where to buy the Nvidia RTX 3070.
