The Apple Air tag will be released at the iPad Pro2021 event next month

We've been patiently waiting for the long-rumored tracking device, Apple AirTags, to appear. And it looks like that wait may finally be over next month when Apple unveils the new iPad Pro 2021 at its spring event.

Last fall's Apple product event featured a new Apple Watch, iPhone, and M1-powered laptop, but no AirTags. With that deadline now looming, many leaker Jon Prosser has stated that AirTags are still scheduled to launch in March.

In a tweet, Prosser said, "I have not heard of any further delays at this time," suggesting that AirTags will still launch in March. However, the crossed fingers emoji suggests that there is still a possibility that the Air Tag will not be announced.

Prosser's timeline is consistent with a January report by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that AirTags will be among Apple's 2021 product releases.

Apple has not officially confirmed the existence of AirTags, but it is clear that Apple intends to give Tile and other key finders a shot in the arm. From what we've heard, AirTags are meant to be attached to things you don't want to lose, like keys, wallets, and other important items. Just as you would track a device, you can track that item with your cell phone.

AirTags is rumored to use the U1 Ultra Wideband sensor that debuted in the iPhone 11. This is an alternative to traditional Bluetooth connectivity and offers better range and accuracy than other key finders on the market. Samsung just announced a similar product called SmartTag, but the first release still relies on Bluetooth.

We've seen evidence here and there that AirTags are on the way, including a hidden "Items" tab in the "Find My" app. This prompts us to "track your everyday items," something that has apparently become possible with the help of AirTags.

Apple will reportedly hold a product launch event in March, where it is expected to unveil the new iPad Pro. Other products are also expected to be unveiled at that launch, including AirTags and AirPods Pro 2. Of course, Apple still needs to confirm that there will be a product launch in March. However, specific dates will be revealed in the coming weeks.
